Looking at the internal temperature values

Our customer BP occupies a leading position with the well-known lubricant brands for engine and transmission oils Castrol and Aral. They are produced at the Hamburg-Neuhof lubricant plant and used in the areas of passenger cars and trucks. The Castrol development center, located on site, works closely with major car manufacturers to develop more efficient lubricant solutions for new engine generations. Company description: www.bp.com

The challenge and task

Let's start with a metaphor to illustrate the task: the Sunday roast comes to simmer in the oven. The temperature is set. Now we have to wait. After reaching the preset temperature, this is kept continuously constant. But what about the temperature inside the roast? BP Europe SE in Hamburg also faced a similar question. Even if this is not a Sunday roast, but the quality lubricant Castrol®. In the manufacturing process, heating takes place, in which a consistently high product quality is required. For this purpose, the surrounding air temperature, as well as the core temperature of each individual building, is recorded and documented to be reliable, so that it tastes safe at the end: the engine.

The solution

DENIOS developed a solution for BP Europe SE that meets all requirements. Two DENIOS heat chambers, each with two independently managed heating chambers, offer four different temperature levels for different materials. With the help of an evaluation line, the surrounding air temperature is permanently recorded and transmitted safely. For this purpose, resistance thermometers with radio measurement value transmission are inserted into each container.

The DENIOS Premium control ensures precise temperature control by determining the IST temperatures of the product at regular and freely programmable intervals and sending them to the evaluation unit or control room. Telegram modification ensures interference-free transmission. From the receiver unit, the temperature data is passed to a data logger without loss and displayed in parameterizable diagrams via a TFT color display.

The screen recorder with audit trail function ensures a tamper-free data history. This enables a reliable and well-founded quality assessment – whether for internal or external auditing. Multi-stage safety modules protect the system from overheating, every interference function is detected and handed over to the control system. Each boiler room has a separate WHG collection tray to protect people and the environment from possible leaks.

Result and customer benefits

Due to the division of the heating rooms, different temperature levels can be used and monitored for production in a compact room. This offers the customer a high degree of flexibility, as well as time and space savings.

The modern monitoring sensors and control technology enable permanent quality control and documentation. In this way, the customer keeps his manufacturing process lean and safe at the same time. We are very pleased that DENIOS was able to make its contribution to the consistently high quality of the Castrol® brand product.

Fire-protected heat chamber for special chemicals

One of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of speciality chemicals produces high-quality raw materials, auxiliary materials, additives and active substances which are used in almost all industrial sectors and consumer goods. For a treatment process, water-polluting and flammable chemical substances are heated in a heat chamber for further processing and fed into the production process with an increased viscosity. The process plant no longer met the current requirements and had to be replaced.
