Installing and maintaining spill pallets correctly
All companies using spill pallets are also required to keep them in good condition. As with any other work equipment, the function of the sump (as well as the collection volume required in the application) must be guaranteed at all times. Necessary maintenance measures must be carried out or defects must be remedied immediately.
In general, ensuring the correct installation of a spill pallet will provide you with a reliable product for a longer period, because in most cases damage occurs as a result of improper handling.
In our overview below we discuss most important things you should consider when installing and maintaining spill pallets.
What you need to know about the installation and maintenance of spill pallets
As with any other work equipment, the function of a spill pallet (as well as the containment volume prescribed in the application) must be guaranteed at all times. Necessary maintenance measures must be carried out immediately and any defects found must be rectified immediately.
So much for your general operator obligations - as a user, you are naturally wondering how to proceed in concrete terms. Specific information on the proper installation and maintenance of spill pallets can be found in the German Steel Spill Pallet Regulation (StawaR). This regulation applies to steel spill palletswith a volume of up to 1,000 litres. Plastic spill pallets are considered an unregulated construction product in Germany. At DENIOS, they have a general building authority approval from the Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). Regulations for installation and maintenance are specified therein.
In general, you can do a lot to ensure that the product will provide you with reliable service for a long time, even when installing the spill pallet. In the vast majority of cases, damage occurs as a result of improper handling. In our checklist, we have compiled the most important things you should consider when installing and maintaining spill pallets.
What if the inspection shows that the spill pallet is no longer functional?
If you find that a plastic spill pallet is significantly impaired in its functionality, it must be removed from service in accordance with DIBt specifications. Steel spill pallets may generally be repaired after damage that impairs their functionality - however, they must then be subjected to a new leak test by the manufacturer or by a specialist company in accordance with the Water Resources Act (Wasserhaushaltsgesetz) pursuant to § 62 AwSV. If you compare the repair costs with the costs of a new purchase, it is usually much more economical to replace the old spill pallet with a new one. In addition, the period of time during which you have to ensure the safe storage of your hazardous substances with an alternative solution is much shorter.

From the idea to the product: This is how a plastic spill pallet is created
Take a look behind the scenes at DENIOS! We will show you how plastic collection trays are created at our company: From the initial idea from our innovation department, through the approval process, to the finished series product, manufactured in our in-house press.
The 7 biggest mistakes when emptying spill pallets
It is not uncommon for liquids to leak and this can happen at any time. But what then? How does the liquid get out of the tray? This is not as trivial as it sounds: when emptying drip pans, serious mistakes can happen. Here you can find out what you should never do under any circumstances - and how to do it correctly.
As a supplier and manufacturer of the largest range of collection trays, we can assure you: There is a suitable collection tray for every requirement. How to choose the optimal product for your needs, we reveal to you in the following.
Safely storing and dispensing disinfectants and sanitisers
The majority of disinfectants are flammable liquids due to their ingredients. These must be stored in accordance with fire protection regulations and to ensure water protection. DENIOS offers the right solutions - so that your company's infection control concept is also on the safe side in terms of hazardous substances legislation.
If the quantities to be stored are kept in only a few 200-litre standard drums or IBCs with a volume of 1,000 litres, a hazardous substances cabinet is no longer sufficient. A large warehouse, on the other hand, is oversized and costly. For these cases, we have developed an economical solution with which small quantities of large containers can be safely stored in a space-saving manner: Our hazardous materials depots.
